The Law Firm Cover Letter Guide
Your cover letter is less important than your résumé. Still, including a strong cover letter is an easy way to burnish your application package.
Drafting a good cover letter is also much easier than crafting a résumé. As in the attached sample, put your name and contact information at the top, followed by the date. This information can either be left-aligned or centered. Next, address the letter to the proper human resources contact at the target firm. This information can usually be found on the firm’s website, NALP, or LinkedIn. If you’re unsure, address the cover letter to the firm’s “Recruitment Manager” or something of the sort.
Use the same font that you used on your résumé. You can’t go wrong with Times New Roman. Use justified margins. You can sign your name at the bottom by using Preview (Mac), Adobe, or a number of free iPhone and Android applications.
